Chandranath Temple - A Visit To A Hindu Pilgrimage Site

This blog is about a trip to a famous pilgrimage site of Hindu society. So let's climb up to the beautiful heritage of "Chandranath Temple".

Chandranath Temple - A Visit To A Hindu Pilgrimage Site

There are 7 billion people around the world and almost everyone is interested in traveling though they can afford the cost or not.
Hey guys. Let's enjoy an interesting blog about my trip to Chandranath temple.
As a Bangladeshi, I would like to represent one of the beautiful traveling or touring spots of my country Bangladesh. It is called Chandranath Temple. This is one of the most beautiful places and the gift of nature. Chandranath temple is situated on the top of Chandranath Hill. It was named after the temple. It is almost above 1,020 ft (as estimated by Google map) from the sea level. But in reality, it may be more than 1,020 feet. This temple is in Shitakundo. It can be seen from Dhaka- Chittagong highway. A pink and small temple. There is an ancient tale of this temple. To get more information about that please visit this webpag: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandranath_Temple.

So I visited Chandranath Temple on December 26th, 2018 with 2 of my friends. As we live in Chittagong City we had to leave for the trip early in the morning because we had to go very far from the city and had to climb a lot. So we left the city for Chandranath Temple at 6:30 am. We started our journey from Alangkar ( almost 30-40 mins away from my house if I take a motor vehicle and if there is no traffic jam). We boarded a local bus that travels outside the city. It costs 70/- tk eachperson . It almost took  1 hour and 45 to 47 minutes to reach Shitakundo. Reaching there we took our breakfast. Well,l that was the worst decision we ever made and acted. Because having a heavy meal before climbing a 1000 ft+ tall hill isn’t a good decision I believe you can understand. But I would really prefer you to have something light to gain the energy before you start climbing. And I would like to encourage you to spend wisely there.  Then we had to take a 3-wheeled vehicle ( we Bengalis call it Tom Tom ) to reach the bottom of the hill. I don’t remember what was the fare of the ride, maybe 10-15/- tk for each person I guess. It took 15-20 mins to reach the bottom of the hill. Then we had to buy a bottle of water and rent a small bamboo for support in climbing. For 1 trip the bamboo costs only 10 /- tk for each person. I am adding a picture of the front of the Chondronath Hillentrancee.

The Entrance of Chandranath Hill

As you can see the road, is slightly 10-15 degrees angled moving towards the top from the land. And then the slope of the hill increases gradually up to 75 degrees. Going through the way we finally reach the stairsteps which leads to the top of the hill. On the way, we found a lot of other temples. We started walking over the stairstep. After climbing for  20 minutes we saw two paths for going to the top. The right path has stairsteps and the left path doesn't have any stairsteps. It was a plain sloped path. Both of the paths take up to the same destination. That's why we choose the path that goes right. We climbed and climbed. Got thirsty, drank water, rested for 3-5 minutes, and then again climbed. At a certain time, we figured out that the steps were broken from an area. The reason for the steps broken is heavy rainfall. And another reason is carrying the weight of thousands of people's footsteps every month. After climbing half of the hill, we stopped and looked behind. We could see the sea from there. The scenario was so much beautiful that I've never seen such a beauty of nature.

Middle of Chandranath Hill

The sun was shining very much bright and I wasn't able to take the heat. That's why I put off my sweater and started climbing on the hill. As we were climbing more, the nature view was getting even better. After climbing for 4 hours and 40 or 50 minutes to be assumed, we reached the top.

After reaching the top we saw the pink beautiful temple of Chandranath. And also the best scenario of nature.
The beauty was irresistible. You can't enjoy the beauty through pictures but bare eyes. The air is so fresh and cool from the bottom layer.
Sometimes, in rainy seasons or circumstances you can touch the clouds from the top of hills. The clouds float around the temple.
Well I'm just kidding, how can you touch a cloud when it's just an element of air. But you can observe the cloud and also your hands would get wet. Some of my friends experienced such a situation on their trip.
But visiting Chandranath temple in the rainy season is very risky as the steps become slippery and muddy.
There are stalls on the way and on the top of the hill. But the price of products was twice their base price.
We were very much tired and our legs were shivering because of lack of energy and workout. But the hardship to reach the top of the hill was worth seeing such a scenario. While getting down it felt very scary because your leg won't have enough strength to bare your body. It will shiver when you're trying to step down every stair step. But getting down wasn't that time-consuming. It took only  1 and half hours or 2 to get down from the hill.
Then we returned home. The list of costs is given below :
From Alangkar to Shitakundo = 70/-
From Shitakundo Bazar to Chandranath hill=15/-
Bamboo = 10/-
Bottle of water = 30/- ( 2 Liter)
Overall cost= 220/-tk for the total trip ( 2.61US$)
The cheapest tour 😃 .
Do visit this place once in your life.
